Welcome to Royal Bengal Restaurant
The owner of Royal Bengal Restaurant, Gita Mazumdar, hails from West Bengal, India. When she came to the Boston area 20 years ago, she brought with her all the tastes of home.
She opened her first restaurant in Cambridge in 2000 and gained widespread popularity for her unique menu items such as Kash Mangsho (goat curry), Moshar Ghanto (spiced banana blossom) and Mulligatawny Soup.
A gem of a spot. The food was delicious and the staff wonderfully real. It’s certainly got that hole-in-the-wall vibe, but the taste is worth it. They were even able to accommodate for our gluten-free needs, considering my wife has celiac. Although the language barrier took us awhile to explain. Truly authentic.

This is the only place in Greater Boston where you can have authentic bengali cuisine. Typically bengali cuisine is different from rest of the India. They have wide variation of fish dishes, the spices used are different than north Indian and south Indian cuisine. If you love Indian cuisine, this is must try. Ask for potatoes with poppy seed, hilsha fish with mustard sauce, shrimp malai curry (cooked in a gravy of curd) and kosha mangso (spicy goat meat).
